NHSE-R Statement on Tools

A key aim of the NHS England R group is to support the use of R and R-Markdown analytics across the NHS England analyst community. To support this aim, we are developing guides, examples, and code– everything an analyst needs to get started using R.

This document describes the why of using R/R-Markdown, as a reference for managers and end-users of these products.

Please file issues, make pull requests, and get involved, we’re happy to take contributions to this document.

Reporting Tools

The NHSE-R group endorses the use of the following tools:

• R
• R-Markdown
• Quarto
• HTML format reports (over PowerPoint)
• Plotly interactive charts

These tools are now available on NHSE UDAL virtual machines and modern desktop laptops for all analysts.
